Surround view fireplaces and raised firepits are appealing options in that they emulate the experience of an open campfire. The problem is that most surround view fireplaces are produced of light materials and they can be easily tipped over. If this happens, fire, ash and embers are sent all over your patio. Just a gust of wind can blow embers and ash around.
Raised fire pits or patio fireplaces, as they are sometimes also called, are located above ground in a contained unit. Some of these are covered, while others can be open. If you do buy a raised firepit be sure it comes with a lid to prevent spreading of ash and fire everywhere.
