Safe Place for an Outdoor FireplaceTo make your firebox bringing you and your loved ones pleasure, you should attach great importance to the safety factor. It’s extremely important that you should build your fireplace in the safest area possible to prevent accidents.

Building your own safe fireplace

You should take into account the following considerations if you want to build a safe fireplace:

Receive permission to build a fireplace. The local government of the place you live in may allow or forbid you to construct the fireplace you have in mind in your neighborhood. So, before digging a hole for an outdoor fireplace, find out whether the municipality of your neighborhood allows it or not.

Choose materials for building. It is recommended that you build from either stone or fireproof brick. You can even use reclaimed brick, taken from old houses being pulled down or from construction sites. However, it is not recommended to use reclaimed brick.

Find a safe location. It’s not so difficult to determine the right place for your fire. The key point is that the fireplace must be at a distance from any things or structures. Once you’ve chosen several places where you will like to place your firebox, make a thorough examination of them.
Look at the sky. The sky above the place for your fire should be clear, that is there should not be any tree limbs or utility lines. Look around. Stand in the center of your fireplace and look around. There should not be any plants closer than six feet.

Consider making the fireplace area enclosed. Small children like to play close to fire, that’s why you always need to be attentive. Making your fireplace enclosed you prevent you and your friends’ kids from accidents.
